Darren Bent has told TalkSPORT on Tuesday morning that he wants to see one of his old clubs in Tottenham Hotspur consider a move to sign Southampton striker Danny Ings if Harry Kane leaves – amid reports Manchester City wants the Saints star.
Ings, 28, has failed to replicate the kind of form that saw him shine last season at Southampton – scoring 25 goals in 42 league and cup appearances. But this season, he has managed only nine goals in 25 outings, completing 90 minutes just 14 times.
Injuries have hampered both his momentum, while an injury crisis at Southampton has affected their form under Ralph Hasenhuttl – meaning less chances for Ings to score. But that has not deterred Manchester City.
Sky Sports claim Manchester City are interested in signing Ings with Sergio Aguero out of contract this summer, and looking more and more likely to depart. Bent reacted to the reports, stating he hopes Tottenham battle Pep Guardiola’s side.
“Other teams will want him. One club that will have to look at him seriously is Tottenham,” Bent said. “If they don’t win anything, I can see Harry Kane going, ‘enough is enough, I need to move on’. Danny Ings would be the perfect replacement.”

TBR’s view – Which would suit Ings more?
Well, if Kane leaves Tottenham – then moving to the North London club would be a no-brainer for Ings. If Kane remains, then a move to Spurs is a less attractive proposition – given Carlos Vinicius has been made to wait for his chance in the league.
At City, Ings would be used rotationally with Gabriel Jesus if the latter remains – and that is if Guardiola does not go big, and look to bring the likes of Erling Haaland or Kylian Mbappe to the club. Spurs suits £75,000 a week (Spotrac) Ings more than City.
