Darren Bent thinks Emerson Royal's Tottenham career is coming to an end

TalkSPORT’s Darren Bent and Andy Goldstein are both adamant that Tottenham Hotspur star Emerson Royal will be gone in the very near future.

The Brazilian has been really poor for Spurs since he joined them from Barcelona for £25.8 million (BBC) last year. He has come under immense criticism, and it’s clear for everyone to see that he’s the weak spot in Tottenham’s side.

Darren Bent thinks Emerson Royal’s Tottenham career is coming to an end

Emerson has done many things to infuriate Tottenham fans over the last few months, but one moment in Spurs’ game against Leeds United last weekend had many supporters raging.

The Brazilian picked up the ball on the right flank and he was under no real pressure whatsoever. However, he still decided to try an outrageous cross-field pass and he got it horribly wrong.

Emerson’s ball went straight to a Leeds United player, much to the anger of Spurs fans and Antonio Conte on the touchline.

Goldstein asked Bent on TalkSPORT: “Did you see that pass at the weekend by Emerson Royal where he just crossed the halfway line and he passed it into the middle of the park to no-one. It was one of the worst passes ever.”

Bent replied: “No, the worst pass he ever did was the no-look one where he passed it out of play.”

The talkSPORT host then said: “I’ve got friends who were at Spurs at the weekend and he was subbed off after 60 minutes. My mate said standing ovation, to get him off.”

Bent then claimed that Emerson’s time is up: “That’s when you know the end is coming.”

The applause when Emerson was substituted against Leeds showed that Tottenham fans have had enough of the Brazilian. Many feel he’s just not good enough for Spurs, and we think Conte is of the same opinion too.

The January transfer window is Spurs’ next opportunity to strengthen their squad. They have been linked with quality right-backs like Denzel Dumfries, but to bring them in, they’ll have to let one of their three right wing-backs go.

Djed Spence has the potential to become a good player in the future, while Matt Doherty will not fetch Tottenham a lot of money if they decide to sell him.

That makes Emerson the perfect player to let go, and after what happened against Leeds, it’s probably the best move for all parties involved after the World Cup.
