‘Tried to steal’: TalkSPORt pundit slams £300k-a-week Tottenham man for what he did at Arsenal

Tottenham saw their unbeaten run come to an end at the hands of bitter rivals Arsenal today, as the Gunners ran out 3-1 winners.

Mikel Arteta’s side were the better side overall, albeit the game did change when Emerson Royal was sent off in the second half for a needless challenge on Gabriel Martinelli. It was the nightmare scenario for Antonio Conte, who was left to chase the game without being over run, something which showed when he made four defensive minded subs at once.

And speaking of Conte, one man who wasn’t impressed with the Tottenham manager today was TalkSPORT regular and former Spurs man, Darren Bent. Taking to Twitter, Bent posted a tweet to suggest that Conte hadn’t tried to win the game at The Emirates today, accusing him of essentially trying to pinch a win.

Conte, who is said to earn around £300k-a-week as Tottenham boss, did indeed make some questionable decisions with those aforementioned subs. Of course, there can be sympathy for the Italian, who saw his effective game plan blown to smithereens when Royal saw red.

However, Conte is there to be shot at given his big job and reputation and Bent – an open Arsenal fan – had a point in his criticism.

TBR’s View: Conte Ruined By Emerson Red Card

Tottenham actually had plenty of chances on the counter attack to affect the game but the final pass let them down more than once. That game plan from Conte was proving effective in the opening 45 and Spurs could actually have been ahead.

However, Emerson Royal’s red completely changed the landscape of the game and in the end, Conte was left a tad powerless to resist.

Conte also lacked attacking options on the bench with Lucas and Kulusevski out. January, then, could be interesting.
