Former Aston Villa striker Darren Bent has now been sharing his thoughts on Ezri Konsa heading to the Euros with England this summer.

Konsa played the majority of Saturday’s loss against Brazil at right-back given Kyle Walker’s injury in the 20th minute.

It’s a position Konsa has often been deployed in by Unai Emery, even if it may not be his strongest.

But the 26-year-old’s versatility is definitely a huge strength of his game, and perhaps the reason by Gareth Southgate will hand him a seat on the plane to Germany.

It’s thought that Konsa will earn his second cap tonight, again playing at right-back in a back four which will also include John Stones, Jarrad Branthwaite and Joe Gomez.

And although there could be space for both Konsa and Branthwaite in the squad this summer, perhaps they are also competing against each other.

All that being said, Darren Bent has been sharing his thoughts on Konsa’s England inclusion on Ben Foster’s podcast.

Bent said he ‘really liked’ Konsa and thought he was a real asset for England’s squad.

Darren Bent says Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa should go to the Euros with England

Speaking on the podcast, Bent commended Konsa’s flexibility across the back line, something not every England defender can do.

He simply said: “I like him. I really like him. I think he’ll be on the plane because he has got that versatility.”

Of course, there will still be fans frustrated that Konsa isn’t getting a chance centrally, perhaps even ahead of the likes of Harry Maguire.

John Stones is a definite starter – there’s no debate about that.

But with Marc Guehi injured right now, perhaps Konsa and Branthwaite are the most in-form alternatives, players who have proven themselves against the best players in the world.

Either way, Konsa should definitely be on the plane, a player who wouldn’t even look out of place at left-back if needed.

And along with Ollie Watkins, Villa fans will be delighted to have two strong representatives in the England squad right now.

All that being said, Watkins has just shared a story about one Villa player who stunned Pau Torres recently.
