Darren Bent says Unai Emery has a player who is just ‘not interested’ anymore at Aston Villa

Darren Bent has slammed an Aston Villa star who is playing like they are not interested in the club this season.

The Villans are still searching for their first league win of the 2025/26 campaign and are sat firmly in the relegation zone after five matches.

While Unai Emery opened his Europa League campaign in winning fashion following the 1-0 victory against Bologna, his side’s league form has been disastrous thus far.

Aston Villa failed to beat newly promoted Sunderland at the Stadium of Light last time out, despite Reinildo’s first-half sending off, leaving the hosts with ten men for the majority of the match.

Now, as the Villans prepare to host Fulham on Sunday, Bent has named one player who he believes appears uninterested at Villa Park.

Morgan Rogers looks like he does not care at Aston Villa

When speaking on Villa’s woes live on talkSPORT, Bent blasted star talisman Morgan Rogers and said the forward looks a shadow of the player he was last season.

“Watkins has got no confidence, and you can see that. But Morgan Rogers looks like he is not interested, and I think once – fans are quite quick, when they see a player not quite running or doing what they were doing last season, they go ‘hold on, what’s going on here?’

“Well, he was linked to some big clubs, and maybe he was thinking ‘oh I wouldn’t mind one of them’ and it hasn’t happened. And that’s why maybe he’s a little bit throwing his toys out the pram a little bit. Because he was good for England.

“So he’s the one I look at and go ‘come on’ because I think he’s a fantastic young player.”

TBR Football revealed that Aston Villa closed the door on selling Rogers this summer – the 23-year-old was linked with a move away throughout the transfer window, following his stellar campaign.

Rogers scored eight goals and added 10 assists as he helped guide Villa to the Champions League quarter-finals and to within touching distance of qualifying for Europe’s elite competition again despite missing out on the final day.

Tottenham were considering Rogers after Thomas Frank lost out on Eberechi Eze to North London rivals Arsenal, and Chelsea were also believed to be monitoring Rogers’ developments in the West Midlands.

However, his form has indeed declined significantly in comparison to last season. Rogers has received intense criticism for his displays thus far, having failed to register a single contribution in seven outings across all competitions.

Morgan Rogers’ form is a serious cause for concern

During the Europa League clash on Thursday, Rogers made 14 incomplete passes and was dispossessed six times on the night.

His talent is undeniable, but something is just not clicking for the England international this season, and his torrid form is having a detrimental impact on the side.

Indeed, Ollie Watkins has also struggled thus far, but the 2025 PFA Young Player of the Year has not looked convincing in the slightest, and perhaps Bent’s suggestions of Rogers having his head turned hold weight.

Nevertheless, Emery must seriously consider introducing either Harvey Elliott or Jadon Sancho into the starting eleven instead of Rogers for the upcoming match against Fulham. The Spaniard cannot afford for his side to drop more points in the Premier League.
