Liverpool’s first Premier League game under Arne Slot ended in a 2-0 win against Ipswich Town courtesy of goals from Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah.

The Reds were poor in the first half but grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck after the interval to secure all three points.

Salah set up Jota for a close-range finish and got his name on the scoresheet moments later to put the game beyond reasonable doubt.

With his goal against Ipswich, Salah became the Premier League’s leading scorer on opening day with nine goals, surpassing legends such as Frank Lampard and Alan Shearer.

And Darren Bent believes the Egyptian maestro is up there with the best players in Premier League history.

Bent lauded Salah for his performance against Ipswich, with the Egyptian playing a big part in both Liverpool goals at Portman Road.

“His direct running, his movement, his work-rate. There was one time when he was having to put a shift in to get back. And then when they break, he is so hungry for goals,” Bent said on talkSPORT’s YouTube channel.

The former Tottenham Hotspur striker admitted he has run out of words to describe Salah, who he believes would get into his greatest Premier League XI.

“He turns around, puts the jets on and he has gone again. There’s nothing you can say about Salah that hasn’t been said. Again, people look at Salah and go, is he that good? For me, he gets in the Premier League best XI.

“Look at his stats and these are his Premier League goals only – 32, 22, 19, 22, 23, 19, 18. Last season, he got 18 goals and ten assists but people said he wasn’t quite at it. It’s nuts!”

Salah undoubtedly one of the Premier League’s greatest

Since joining Liverpool for a fee believed to be in the region of £34m [Sky Sports] in 2017, Salah’s consistency has been quite remarkable.

The 32-year-old has scored 212 goals and notched up 88 assists across 350 appearances in all competitions for the club, making him one of the most prolific attackers in world football in that period.

Salah also has three Premier League Golden Boots (2017-18, 2018-19 and 2021-22) and two PFA Player of the Year Awards (2017-18 and 2021-22) to his name, among other notable personal accolades.

He has also won every major trophy in club football at Anfield and has shown no signs of slowing down despite entering his 30s, indicating that he’s not quite done yet.

Salah is already up there with the greatest players in Premier League history and could further cement his legacy in the coming years before calling time on his career.
