Darren Bent says Liverpool have a really good player who’s never played a game for the Reds

Liverpool have perhaps the most stacked squad in Europe right now.

Indeed, after spending over £400m this summer, the Reds have a ridiculous array of talent at their disposal.

Alexander Isak is the best striker in the world according to some, while Mohamed Salah is a Ballon d’Or contender after an incredible season last time around.

Beyond their stars, Liverpool also have some amazing players too.

Curtis Jones, Federico Chiesa, Joe Gomez and Wataru Endo are all fantastic players who aren’t in Arne Slot’s best XI, while, speaking on TalkSPORT, Darren Bent has hailed another Liverpool bench player.

Darren Bent praises Giorgi Mamardashvili

Bent was discussing Liverpool’s squad depth when he touched on Giorgi Mamardashvili.

The Georgian arrived at Liverpool this summer to deputise for Alisson, and while he’s yet to play a game for Liverpool, Bent says that he is a good goalie.

Indeed, the pundit says he has seen Mamardashvili play, and he thinks he’s a solid keeper.

“When you look at their depth, they have Mamardashvili, I’ve seen him, he’s a good goalkeeper, he’s 24 years old, he’s only going to get better. That’s ok,” Bent said.

Darren Bent’s one Liverpool concern

Bent had high praise for Mamardashvili here, but he did express one concern about Liverpool.

Indeed, the pundit says that he is concerned about the idea of Virgil van Dijk picking up an injury at Liverpool.

“If they lose Virgil, that’s a big concern, you can’t replace him. If it’s Konate, and then Giovanni Leoni, I think they’re a bit light at centre-half,” Bent said.

Liverpool do have an incredible squad and plenty of depth, but after failing to sign Marc Guehi on deadline day, they do need to add more in the centre-back department.

If Van Dijk does go down injured at some point this season, that could well be decisive in the title race, just as it was in the 2020/21 season.
