Darren Bent says he wishes Arsenal had signed ‘incredible’ £54m star

Arsenal are likely to be busy in the last three weeks of the summer transfer window as Edu and Mikel Arteta look to apply the finishing touches to their squad.

The Gunners will be raring to go again in the Premier League title race while also improving on their run to the Champions League quarter-finals last term.

Arsenal have made one senior signing so far, bringing Riccardo Calafiori to the Emirates Stadium from Bologna.

The Gunners are currently also being linked with a new midfielder – Mikel Merino is said to be a key target – as well as some attacking reinforcements.

For instance, the likes of Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyokeres are said to be on Arsenal’s radar, as well as England international Ivan Toney.

However, there will invariably be those who slip through the net. Darren Bent has now bemoaned the fact Arsenal have lost out on a “great” target to a London rival.

Darren Bent would have loved Pedro Neto at Arsenal

The player in question is Wolverhampton Wanderers ace Pedro Neto, one of the most exciting talents in the Premier League.

He has been linked with Arsenal for some time now, one report claiming Gunners manager Mikel Arteta wanted Neto as cover for Bukayo Saka.

However, Neto has since agreed a move to Chelsea, and Bent, speaking on talkSPORT (9/8/24, 4:11pm), admits he’d have loved Arsenal to have got their hands on him.

“Honestly,” began Bent. “I would have loved Arsenal to have got him, Neto, because he is a great player.

“But he is going to a loaded Chelsea squad. On that side already, they have got Sterling who plays on the left, they have got Mudryk who plays on the left, and now Neto.”

Arsenal must now look elsewhere

Neto is a world-class forward who boasts superb footwork, vision, speed and work-rate. He has been deemed “incredible” by Wolves boss Gary O’Neil.

He’d have been a great shout for Arsenal, who would’ve had tremendous strength in depth on the right flank with him and Saka.

Sadly, Neto has agreed a £54million move to Chelsea, so the Gunners will need to look elsewhere.
