Manchester United have had some transfer shockers over the years.

The Red Devils have really made a mess in the transfer market in recent times, and it has to be said that some of the worst signings in Premier League history have been made by the 20-time league champions as of late.

Speaking on TalkSPORT, Darren Bent has been discussing some of United’s business in this modern era, ranking each signing.

Interestingly, Bent actually named Romelu Lukaku as a worse signing for United than Harry Maguire, giving Lukaku’s £75m move a rating of 6/10, while Maguire’s £85m switch was rated 6.5/10.

Romelu Lukaku was a worse signing than Harry Maguire

Bent shared his verdict on these two signings.

“Harry Maguire I’ve given 6.5. At the start he was decent, when you went unbeaten away from home he was good that year. Lukaku, I’ve given him a six. When you look at it closely, 96 appearances 42 goals, 13 assists. His first season he scored 27 in total, that’s not that bad,” Bent said.

Harsh

We can’t help but feel that Bent is being very harsh here.

Those numbers that the pundit read out aren’t bad at all, while United actually made most of their money back on Lukaku after selling him to Inter Milan for £74m.

Meanwhile, Maguire has been poor for quite some time now, and if things had gone differently in the summer, United would happily have taken a massive loss on Maguire with a move to West Ham.

Lukaku wasn’t great for the Red Devils, it has to be said, but at the same time, to say that he was a worse signing than Maguire does feel slightly harsh.
