‘Been brilliant’: Darren Bent says Arsenal and Newcastle stars form his dream duo this season

Newcastle and Arsenal have both enjoyed superb starts to the season and TalKSPORT’s Darren Bent thinks they’ve got the perfect centre-backs.

Both the Gunners and the Toon have enjoyed good defensive records this term. Eddie Howe has got his Magpies side set up to be solid. While in North London, Mikel Arteta has overseen a huge change in how Arsenal defend and see games out.

And speaking on TalkSPORT just now, Arsenal fan Darren Bent says he’d be picking William Saliba and Sven Botman as his dream centre-back pairing this season.

“If I had to pick two centre-backs, I’m torn a little bit. One, would be Saliba, at Arsenal. I think he’s been brilliant, you’ve seen how good he’s been for Arsenal this season. They sit top of the Premier League table.

“Now I’m torn, ‘cos I like Martinez at Manchester United. But I also like Sven Botman at Newcastle. I think I’m going to go for Botman at Newcastle. I think he’s been brilliant, only 22, his performances have been outstanding,” Bent said on TalkSPORT.

Saliba has returned to Arsenal after impressing on loan with Marseille. Botman, meanwhile, was one of Newcastle’s marquee signings after they beat a host of clubs to his signature.

TBR’s View: Botman and Saliba both excellent

Hard to argue with Darren Bent here. Both Botman and Saliba have been super impressive at the back for Newcastle and Arsenal this season.

Botman’s move to Newcastle will frustrate some of the clubs around the top four. He looks the real deal and some will be left wondering how they’ve missed out.

Saliba, meanwhile, has been a rock. The Frenchman has effectively been a new signing for Arsenal and he is now key.

Bent’s picks, then, are hard to come back at, even if he does mention the impressive Martinez at Manchester United.
