Darren Bent has posted a message on Twitter defending Dele Alli, who was publicly criticised by his manager Jose Mourinho for a mistake he made on Wednesday night in the win over Stoke City.
After being restored to the Spurs starting XI, Alli once again has found himself in the limelight.
The 24-year-old attacking midfielder looked impressive in parts despite failing to get on the scoresheet and was taken off midway through the second-half.
But post-match Mourinho criticised the £100,000-a-week star (Spotrac), after him losing possession ended up leading to an equalising goal from Jordan Thompson to make it 1-1 at the time.
The North London club ended up winning away at Stoke 3-1 in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals and face Brentford in the last four, but it’s Alli who is once again the topic of conversation.
Pundit and ex-Spurs forward Bent has given credit to the 37-time capped England international for hid midweek display, adding that any criticism fired towards him is harsh.

TBR’s View:
Alli’s going through the most turbulent time of his Spurs career right now, as he looks completely out of favour with Mourinho and it’s hard to envisage him getting back in his good books.
There were some real creative moments against Stoke where he showed shades of what everyone knows he can do, but he’s played in just 11 games so far this season in all competitions and it’s almost impossible for him to build any kind of rhythm.
It’ll be interesting to see what happens for him in 2021 amid lots of speculation regarding his future and he desperately needs a run of starts to try rediscover his form.
