Darren Bent gives instant reaction as Aston Villa complete Danny Ings signing

Darren Bent has reacted instantly on Twitter to the breaking news that Aston Villa have completed the signing of Danny Ings from Southampton on Wednesday evening.

The Midlands club have confirmed on their official website that they have signed the centre-forward from Premier League rivals Southampton. He’s penned a three-year deal at Villa Park.

Ings, 29, has completed a move that has come out of the blue.

The English striker scored 46 goals in 100 appearances for Southampton, but has now left them for Villa. Intriguingly, he’s not left for a team with European football to offer this season.

He’s proven throughout his career he’s a clinical finisher, but injuries have always been a negative mark against his name. His time with Liverpool was wrecked by problems.

However, ex-Villa player Bent believes his former club have made a “great signing”.

Also, he’s hinted about the future of current Villa club captain Jack Grealish. However, the Daily Mail claims he’s on the verge of joining Manchester City.

Danny Ings will score goals for Aston Villa if fit

For Villa, they are adding yet another player during this window with immense quality.

It looks like Grealish is heading to the Etihad Stadium, but you could argue on paper Dean Smith’s side could look better in the new season. At the very least, the squad is stronger.

Ings is a natural goalscorer that can guarantee 15-plus goals a season.

It’s interesting to see where Smith fits him into his plans considering he’s already got quality forward Ollie Watkins.
