Darren Bent explains why he feels sorry for Arsenal star who’s a ‘great footballer’

Darren Bent has said that he feels sorry for Arsenal player Ben White after he made his competitive debut for the club last Friday.

The Gunners lost 2-1 against newly-promoted Brentford in their Premier League opener last week, so there’s already a lot of criticism thrown towards them.

White, 23, is one of several players that found it difficult against Brentford. In particular, opposition forward Ivan Toney made it extremely challenging for him with his height and physicality.

The Arsenal summer signing is under real scrutiny because of his £50million price tag and many hope he can help fix Mikel Arteta’s vulnerable backline.

Pundit and Arsenal fan Bent feels sorry for White because of the team he’s playing in at the Emirates Stadium. He reckons he would look far greater playing in a better side.

“I felt so sorry for Ben White [against Brentford]. If you take Ben White out of Arsenal’s team and put him in Man City or Chelsea, I bet he looks like that £50million player in terms of the way they would dominate possession and he’s a great footballer,” Bent told talkSPORT.

Ben White will shine at Arsenal

It’s completely wrong for anyone to be writing off White after one appearance, especially as the level of his performance was exaggerated by doubters.

It was a difficult encounter against Toney, but he’s a unique forward that will trouble so many throughout the season.

He’s a ball-playing centre-half that has shown at Leeds United he can be a rock working in a back four. There will be chances in Mikel Arteta’s side to show off his quality on the ball, especially in home games.

For Arsenal, they need to find the ideal centre-back partner next to him. In addition, he may need a few games adjusting to life as a player at a huge club.
