Darren Bent has predicted that Tottenham are going to win a piece of silverware in the upcoming season.
Spurs have not won a trophy since the League Cup back in 2008, but there has been huge improvement since manager Mauricio Pochettino took charge in 2014.
The North London club have finished in the top four of the Premier League in the last four consecutive campaigns, while last season they went to the Champions League final before losing to Liverpool.
Midfielder Tanguy Ndombele has arrived at the club as a high-profile signing already this summer and fans are desperate to see the team get over the line with a trophy.
Ex-Spurs striker Bent is confident that his former side are progressing in the right step and feels the 2019/20 campaign may be when they end their drought.
“They do need to win a trophy I do believe, but they are still in the driving seat,” Bent told talkSPORT.
“They have still got a fantastic manager there, still got brilliant players, they are a club again that I think is easily going to finish in the top four.
“They are a club going in the right direction. I believe they will win a trophy this year.”
Spurs have certainly become one of the most consistent teams in the Premier League in recent years and look a good bet to be in the top four once again.
But they need to overcome the mental barrier of winning silverware and their first success could end up opening the floodgates.
Pochettino’s squad is stacked with talented players and it would be a major shame if the current group have no medals to show for it.
It’s going to be a tough ask to go all the way in the Premier League or Champions League, but the domestic cup competitions are a brilliant opportunity.
