Darren Bent expects Tottenham striker Harry Kane to come good against Arsenal

Darren Bent believes Tottenham’s Harry Kane hasn’t quite hit the heights he’s capable of so far this season, but expects him to star in the North London derby on Sunday.

Spurs are currently preparing for their trip to rivals Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium and go into the contest under a small amount of pressure.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side have four points from their opening three league matches, which includes a surprise 1-0 home defeat to Newcastle United last weekend.

They would surely love a response before the international break and a win over Arsenal would settle down any concerned supporters.

Kane scored two goals in the opening day win over Aston Villa, but has struggled to leave his impact on the games against Manchester City and Newcastle.

The England captain has proven for a numbers of years that he’s one of the top centre-forwards in Europe, but has a track record of making slows starts to seasons.

Ex-Spurs striker Bent isn’t too concerned by a recent drop-off from Kane and is backing him to score against Arsenal in the derby.

“By his own standards probably a little bit slow [this season], at some stage he is going to have a dip because he’s been on an upwards trajectory for years,” Bent said on on Sky Sports’ Main Event channel (10:10pm, 29 August).

“He’s had a bit of a quiet season, but he’s still got two goals to his name. At some stage he’s going to need a breather because he does play a lot of football and he’s had the injuries.

“[The North London derby] is his game and he always seems to score in these games. I’m sure it will be no different this weekend.”

TBR’s View:

Kane hasn’t quite hit peak form yet this season, but it’s only three games in and absolutely no time to panic.

Spurs have looked short of ideas as an attacking unit at times, but fortunately the Arsenal fixture may work to their advantage and fans should expect an exciting match with two teams on the front foot.

Kane has scored three goals in his last four games across all competitions against Arsenal and their defence will massively fear him.

He’s the type of player that can drag his team through a North London derby and is capable of being a match-winner.
