Darren Bent discusses reported Liverpool target Ben White, after starring for Leeds

Darren Bent has told EFL on Quest that has heaped praise on Leeds United loanee Ben White after the Whites beat Middlesbrough, amid reported interest from Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and Chelsea.

White, 22, has starred for Leeds since joining the club on a season-long loan from Premier League side Brighton. He joined a relative unknown, replacing Pontus Jansson, but has since starred for the Whites – becoming a fan favourite.

Sky Sports has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and Chelsea are all keeping tabs on former Newport County and Peterborough loanee White, given that he has played every single minute of Leeds’ Championship campaign.

Indeed, Leeds have conceded just 30 goals in 35 league games – keeping 15 clean sheets. White has been central to that and the former Spurs striker applauded the Leeds star for his effect on Marcelo Bielsa’s side, with the Premier League in sight.

“They’ve had 19 wins [in the Championship] this season with 14 clean sheets which is absolutely sensational,” Bent said. “Ben White at the back has been fantastic, he’s made a huge difference.

“Top teams are looking at him, I think Liverpool are interested. He’s been a massive, massive signing for Leeds. If they can keep the clean sheets and defensively remain very, very strong, I think this could be their season.”

TBR’s view – Do Leeds have a chance of keeping White?

Figures of at least £20million have been touted for White and if Tyrone Mings joined Aston Villa for £26.5million, White is likely to be more. Can Leeds afford such a fee? They would have absolutely no chance if they remain in the Championship.

Even in the Premier League, such a fee would be enormously expensive. Brighton have reiterated they want to keep him, while competition from some of the Premier League’s top six is likely to turn White’s head.

Leeds will have a chance if they get promoted, but another season in the Championship, and they will wave goodbye to White.
