Darren Bent claims Liverpool might sell Mo Salah to fund signing of world-class stars

Darren Bent has told TalkSport that Liverpool shouldn’t rule out selling Mo Salah to land either Kylian Mbappe or Jadon Sancho.

The Reds are 22 points clear at the top of the Premier League and are romping to their first title since the league formed in 1992.

Salah checked-in at Anfield in 2017, costing £34 million from Serie A outfit Roma (TalkSport).

Since arriving on Merseyside he has proved a revelation, netting 89 goals during 137 games under the management of Jurgen Klopp.

He is one part of a formidable front three alongside Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.

Bent, however, believes the Egyptian to be the most disposable of the three.

He told TalkSport: “Listen, we know he scores a lot of goals and he is a top, top player. Two Golden Boots, Player of the Season, Champions League winner, about to win the Premier League, the accolades are there.

“When you look at his general play to say someone like Mane, I’d have to say Mane’s been better than him.

“Firmino is the glue, he doesn’t score as many goals but his hold up play is arguably one of the best in the league. He brings players in, holds onto the ball, he’s fantastic.”

Bent went a step further with his comments and implied that Salah could be the one of the three to make way for a stellar summer signing.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp may look to make an addition or two to his squad in the summer and Bent wouldn’t rule out Salah leaving – if the circumstances were right.

He continued: “It’s not about selling him and getting £100 million and that’s it, but if you can replace him with say Mbappe or someone like Jadon Sancho, I think it’s worth thinking about.”

TBR Verdict – Selling Salah would seem madness but Bent does have a point

Salah earns £200,000-a-week, according to Spotrac and out of Klopp’s front three he is the highest earner.

As a result, it would be beyond the realms of reality that Salah was sold – especially if Mbappe or Sancho were to arrive at Anfield.

Salah’s goalscoring record has proved exceptional at Liverpool and supporters would certainly be thankful for his efforts.

The summer could be interesting though. If Klopp genuinely believes he can land one of the two stars which Bent mentioned, he could look to offload one of his ferocious front three.

Selling a player with such a prolific ratio in front of goal might seem like madness, but it doesn’t seem unthinkable.
