Mohamed Salah continues to deliver for Liverpool.
The Egypt international has shown an utterly remarkable level of consistency since arriving at Anfield in a £34m move from Roma back in June 2017 – scoring at least 19 Premier League goals in each of his seven seasons on Merseyside.
So far this term, the Liverpool No.11 has already notched ten goals and ten assists in just 17 appearances across all competitions under Arne Slot – the first player in Europe’s top five leagues to hit double figures for both metrics.
Now – speaking on talkSPORT – Darren Bent has reacted to what he heard about Mohamed Salah last weekend.
Darren Bent stunned to hear Mohamed Salah sits fifth in Liverpool’s all-time top goalscorers
When eulogising over the Egyptian, the 40-year-old could not believe the fact he is fifth in Liverpool’s list of record goalscorers.
Bent said: “Do you know what’s crazy? I saw it at the weekend. He is fifth in Liverpool’s all-time record goalscorers. Did you know that? When I saw that, I was like, oh my goodness.”
After finding the net in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Aston Villa, Salah now has 221 goals in 366 appearances for Liverpool. Only Ian Rush, Roger Hunt, Gordon Hodgson and Billy Liddell have netted more.
| # | Player | Goals | Appearances | Minutes played | Games / goals ratio |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Ian Rush | 346 | 660 | 57011 | 1.91 |
| 2 | Roger Hunt | 285 | 492 | 44011 | 1.73 |
| 3 | Gordon Hodgson | 241 | 377 | 33960 | 1.56 |
| 4 | Billy Liddell | 228 | 534 | 48180 | 2.34 |
| 5 | Mohamed Salah | 221 | 366 | 29491 | 1.66 |
Incredibly, the man born in Nagrig also boasts 99 assists in those 366 outings, proving that he is not only an elite goalscorer, but also a highly efficient creator.
In truth, Salah joining Liverpool for only £34m may even have to be considered as the greatest transfer in history, when you take into account his numbers, and his trophy haul of one Premier League title, one UEFA Champions League, one FIFA Club World Cup, one UEFA Super Cup, one FA Cup, two League Cups and also the FA Community Shield.
Arne Slot needs FSG to strike an agreement
Salah is lighting up Anfield this season, but it may be his last on Merseyside unless Fenway Sports Group (FSG) can agree a new contract with the 32-year-old.
The £34m man, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are all set to become free agents at the end of the current campaign, so Slot could lose three players who are arguably his best at Anfield.

Saudi Pro League sides want to sign Salah – having previously made a £150m bid on transfer deadline day back in September 2023.
Furthermore, Barcelona are keen to sign Salah on a free transfer in 2025.
Unsurprisingly, the Liverpool sensation will not be short of offers, so FSG need to do their upmost to keep this special, special talent at Anfield.
