Leeds United flop Dario Del Fabro has described Elland Road favourite Gaetano Berardi as a “Lion” after the defender posted on Instagram following the Whites’ 2-0 win over Preston.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side pushed themselves towards Premier League promotion with a comfortable victory over Preston, thanks to an excellent brace from previously under-fire striker Patrick Bamford.
Berardi, 30, came on for the final 13 minutes of the match, replacing winger Gjanni Alioski. It was just 24 hours after the one-time Swizterland international had scored for Leeds’ Under-23 side.
Del Fabro, signed by Massimo Cellino in the latter’s first summer as owner, described Berardi – another Cellino signing from Sampdoria in the same summer – as a “Lion” on his Instagram post.
TBR’s view
A tale of two careers. Berardi joined Leeds has gone on to become somewhat of a club legend, clocking up 124 appearances in all competitions. He has shown the quality to play anywhere in defence.
Meanwhile, Del Fabro’s disappointing Leeds spell – in which he only played once in an FA Cup tie against Sunderland – has seen him struggling in Serie B.
A weird move to Juventus has seen him loaned out consistently. This season, Del Fabro has played just three times with second-tier outfit Cremonese. Signed at the same time, but completely different outcomes.
