Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa has an admirer in the form of a current Argentina international.

Dario Benedetto, who was linked with a potential move to the Premier League in the summer joined Bielsa’s former club Marseille in the summer. The French side paid a fee in the region of €16 million (£14m) to sign the player from Boca Juniors in the summer, as reported by France 24.

The 29-year-old has since been in fine form for Andre Villas-Boas’ side, scoring five goals in 11 games for l’OM.

This week he has been speaking to the French club’s official website when he revealed his admiration for the Leeds United boss.

“I do not know him as a person. But as a coach, he’s a reference. I do not find the right word, but he is a reference for all coaches.

“I spent three years in Mexico and, for all the coaches in Mexico, Bielsa is at the top. And for me too, the way I create football makes me see Bielsa as one of the important Argentine coaches.”

It should come as no surprise that Benedetto speaks so highly of Bielsa. Whilst he has never worked with the Leeds boss ‘El Loco’ is a highly-respected football personality in Argentina because of his success at Newell’s Old Boys, the national team and later in Chile and Europe.

What it does signify, however, is the star power that Bielsa possesses which can hopefully help keep Leeds in the mind of potential new recruits whilst he is at the club and beyond.

Benedetto, at least, sounds like he would love to work with the Leeds boss.
