Danny Ward discovering grass isn’t always greener since leaving Liverpool for Leiceseter

The arrival of Alisson Becker at Liverpool this summer spelled an opportunity for one man as Danny Ward capitalised to force a move to Leicester City in search of regular first team football.

However, the Foxes managed to hold on to Kasper Schmeichel, meaning that Ward is still waiting for that opportunity.

Despite having gone from potentially having been third or fourth choice on Merseyside, he is still only second choice in the Midlands and is finding life difficult at the King Power Stadium.

The Welshman has failed to strengthen his case to displace Wayne Hennessey for Wales, being restricted to a spot on the bench in all of Wales’ fixtures since last November.

He has not been assisted in that he has played just twice for his new club, both in EFL Cup action, once against League One side Fleetwood Town and once against Premier League rivals Wolves. In both, he has kept a clean sheet and even helped his side to a penalty shoot-out victory in his latest outing.

Yet, just as he only played EFL Cup fixtures last season for the Reds, that is all he is getting for the Foxes too. Long-term he may feel he has a stronger claim, but Ward has quickly discovered that the grass is not always greener.
