Danny Simpson thinks Manchester United player should join Leeds United in January

Danny Simpson has told Stadium Astro that he thinks Manchester United winger Daniel James should consider a move to Leeds United in the January transfer window, amid reports that the Whites are keen on signing the Wales international.

James, 23, has history with Leeds. Rewind to January 2019, James came within an inch of moving to Elland Road from Swansea City. Amazon Prime’s Take Us Home documentary showed James had even picked the number 21 shirt before a move collapsed.

Since joining United, James has been in and out of form. He has just six goals in 54 appearances following his £15million (BBC) move which occurred six months after his Leeds move fell through. One of those came against Leeds in the 6-2 United win.

Ex-Old Trafford product Simpson spoke after Manchester United’s 2-2 draw with another of Simpson’s old sides in Leicester – and thinks James, who started the Saturday clash, should move to Elland Road. The Star claim Leeds are interested.

“Sometimes he looks a little bit lost, is that his confidence? I’m not sure,” Simpson said. “We keep hearing rumours, he keeps getting linked to Leeds in January. These rumours don’t come from nowhere. Maybe it could be time to go and play football week in, week out instead of playing once every four or five games.”

TBR’s view – James would not start for Leeds

Jack Harrison is currently in fourth in terms of chances created in the Premier League, according to WhoScored, behind only Jack Grealish, Bruno Fernandes and Kevin De Bruyne. In his 14 games, he has created 32 – laying on three assists.

Raphinha, a summer signing from Rennes, is quickly becoming a fan favourite and impressed against Burnley on Sunday once again. He scored against Everton and laid on both assists in the 6-2 loss to Manchester United.

They are two of the first names on the team sheet at the moment. If James joined Leeds, he would only be back-up to those two players – with Leeds also boasting Ian Poveda, Helder Costa, Gjanni Alioski, Pablo Hernandez and Stuart Dallas.
