Danny Murphy has told TalkSPORT that he thinks Steven Gerrard might try and tempt Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli with a loan to Rangers in January, though questions whether Alli would consider a move.
Dele, 24, has plummeted down the pecking order under Jose Mourinho this season – failing to make the Premier League squad in nine of Tottenham’s 12 league games. He did come on against Crystal Palace on Sunday, albeit for five minutes.
The former MK Dons star continues to be linked with the exit door. Website 90Min say Daniel Levy is willing to let the £100,000k-a-week (Spotrac) ace leave the club on loan until the end of the 2021-22 season – but wants him permanently.
Ex-Tottenham midfielder Murphy considered where Dele could move in January, as he bids to make a late push for the Euro 2021 squad – and Murphy thinks Gerrard could consider an ambitious move to lure him to Rangers.

“I’m not sure Dele would be up for it, but I thought maybe Stevie G at Rangers could persuade him to go there and win him the title,” Murphy told TalkSPORT. “He’d play every week, score a lot of goals, get his confidence up and impress Gareth Southgate.
“There is an argument to say ‘would that be enough scoring at that level?’ because it is a drop down. But I don’t know. Maybe playing under Stevie is something that he would enjoy.”
TBR’s view – Could Dele really be tempted with a move to Rangers?
Though Rangers and the Scottish Premiership is a considerable step down from Tottenham and the Premier League, Alli would become the club’s best player. He would have a huge chance of silverware, and he would be in Europe.
Rangers qualified for the knockout stages after Christmas where they will come up against Tottenham’s group stage opponents in the form of Royal Antwerp. Gerrard has Rangers playing in a way that will surely catch Southgate’s attention.
James Tavernier’s form will have certainly caught Southgate’s eye – so Alli moving on loan could work. Can Tottenham and Rangers strike an agreement on his wages? Would Alli consider a move? Are Rangers interested? Time will tell.
