Danny Murphy has claimed in his Daily Mail column that he believes two Manchester United stars would fit right at home at Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool – in new signing Dan James and United academy product Marcus Rashford.
James, 21, has had an excellent start to life at Manchester United after joining the club from Swansea City in the summer. He has since scored three goals in six Premier League games from out wide – against Chelsea, Southampton and Palace.
The move to United came just 12 months after he had broken into the Swansea side, where he had a hand in 16 goals for the Welsh side during 2018-19, in just 39 outings. Rashford continues to shine for United despite his tender age.
Former Liverpool midfielder Murphy was discussing how Liverpool are currently a long way ahead of Manchester United but defended Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side by saying United sitll have quality – claiming Liverpool would sign James and Rashford.
“United need more quality to catch up to their rivals but that doesn’t mean they don’t have any at the club. I think Jurgen Klopp would take Marcus Rashford and Daniel James all day long, they would fit in with his philosophy very well,” Murphy said.
TBR’s view – Surely Liverpool would consider other United stars?
Liverpool’s midfield is arguably the weakest area of their side – if there is a weak spot in the Reds team. Up front, Liverpool can hardly be improved and it is the same at the back. But in midfield, Liverpool could do with additions.
Putting rivalry, wages and transfer fees aside, Paul Pogba boasts the talent to get into Liverpool’s midfield. Alisson is an excellent goalkeeper but it is hard to ignore the qualities of David de Gea.
