Danny Murphy has been left bemused by the decision from Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho to leave Toby Alderweireld out of some games.
Alderweireld, who was an £11.5million signing in 2015, has been in and out of the starting XI in the past couple of months.
The Belgian defender has been a casualty of the manager’s rotation policy at centre-back.
He’s one of the options at centre-half alongside Davinson Sanchez, Joe Rodon, Japhet Tanganga and Eric Dier.
The 31-year-old has only started three of the last eight Premier League fixtures though, which shows he’s far from the first-choice option in the backline.
Pundit and ex-Spurs midfielder Murphy has suggested Mourinho is making the wrong decision when it comes to Alderweireld.
“Alderweireld is the best centre-back they’ve got and he doesn’t play,” Murphy told talkSPORT.

TBR’s View:
Mourinho has certainly given plenty of opportunities to all of his centre-back this season and it feels like he’s still searching for his perfect combination.
The Portuguese boss has confirmed that Alderweireld will be recalled to the starting line-up on Wednesday for the Europa League knockout tie with Wolfsberger, which they lead 4-1 on aggregate ahead of the second leg.
But surely the player’s aim will be to break back into the league side, with the next Premier League match on Sunday against Burnley.
