Jadon Sancho is set to return to Manchester United after Chelsea decided against signing the winger.
Chelsea have had to pay a £5m penalty fee to send Jadon Sancho back to Old Trafford, but the Blues clearly thought there was more value in not having Sancho than keeping him around.
Sancho will now have to find a new club as it would appear he doesn’t have a future at Manchester United.
Sancho was heavily criticised during his time at Chelsea, but, interestingly, he did reportedly have the option to stay at Stamford Bridge.
Indeed, according to Jim White, speaking on TalkSPORT, Chelsea wanted Sancho to stay, but they wanted him to take a paycut in order to secure a permanent move to Stamford Bridge, something the winger was not willing to do.
Danny Murphy shared his reaction to this update alongside White

Danny Murphy reacts to Jadon Sancho to Chelsea update
Murphy shared his verdict after hearing Sancho may have had the option to stay at Chelsea.
The pundit says that Sancho’s decision here was simply wrong, claiming that he should’ve stayed at a club where he was settled regardless of the paycut.
“Right, to back that up, someone who is in the know has got in touch to me to say that Chelsea wanted Sancho to stay but he had to take a paycut and he didn’t want to do that,” Murphy said.
“If that’s true, and that sounds right to me, which is wrong on the player to not think ‘I’m here’. He will find a club, he’s a clever footballer. I think he’s done alright. We do this where we judge football players on numbers all the time, but he’s so reliable on the ball.”
How much does Jadon Sancho earn?
Sancho wasn’t keen to take a paycut in order to sign for Chelsea, and it’s hard to blame him.
Indeed, from a footballing perspective, Sancho would almost certainly be best off staying at Chelsea. But, from the winger’s point of view, you can see why he’s returning to Manchester United.
| Jadon Sancho’s Manchester United deal | |
| Weekly wage | £300,000 |
| Contract expiry date | June 30 2026 |
| Value of contract remaining | £16,500,000 |
Sancho is now into the final year of what will surely be the biggest contract of his career, and you can’t blame him for not wanting to walk away from that.
Yes, he’d be better served as a footballer at Chelsea, but, ultimately, football is like any other job and you have to optimise your earnings.
