Danny Murphy says he’d pick ‘flying’ 26-year-old Arsenal player over Liverpool star right now

Danny Murphy has shared what he really loves about Gabriel Jesus, as he suggested, on current form, he would take the Arsenal striker over Darwin Nunez.

Gabriel Jesus is going some way to silence his critics right now. The Brazilian has scored in two of his last three Premier League appearances for the Gunners to help Mikel Arteta’s side go back to the top of the table.

Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for Darwin Nunez. The Uruguayan has now failed to score in his last 11 appearances for the Reds in all competitions.

Nunez does bring a lot to the Liverpool side with how hard he works. And it is a similar story for Gabriel Jesus, who went through his own lengthy run without a goal earlier in the season.

Danny Murphy shares what he loves about Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus

Arsenal travel to face Liverpool at Anfield this weekend in a game which pits the Premier League’s top two against each other.

And ahead of the fixture, Danny Murphy told The Take On which of the two strikers he would pick right now – while also sharing why he is a fan of both.

“On current form, Jesus,” he said.

“Jesus is flying. Do you know what I really like about both? Do you know what I love about those two is that they’re always up for it. If they’re playing c—, they just put themselves about.”

Gunners star’s form is improving

It is hard to disagree with Murphy’s choice. Only three players in the Premier League are performing worse against their expected goals tally than Nunez so far this season, according to FB Ref.

Gabriel Jesus is 34th on that list. So he is having a slightly better year.

At some stage, Liverpool are going to need Nunez to find another level and become a much more ruthless goalscorer.

Mohamed Salah will not be at Anfield forever. The Egyptian is some way out in front on Liverpool’s scoring charts. So a number of players will have to step up when the forward does move on.

Arsenal do not have anyone rivalling Salah for goals this season. But they do share the goals around. So there is probably less pressure on Jesus to find the back of the net, as long as he is bringing other things to the table.

And he most definitely manages to do that.
