Danny Murphy says Everton must insist on Broja in Anthony Gordon deal

Danny Murphy has told talkSPORT that Everton must insist on Armando Broja moving in the opposite direction if they decide to sell Anthony Gordon to Chelsea.

Gordon could move to Stamford Bridge in the final days of the window. Sky Sports reports that the Blues are ready to pay £60 million for the 21-year-old.

Gordon wants to join Chelsea. And that leaves Everton in a difficult position in the final days of the window.

The fee looks eye-watering given how little Gordon has actually played. And it does not appear that he is going to be a regular starter for Thomas Tuchel’s men.

Plenty of Everton fans would probably reluctantly accept such a deal. But it is absolutely imperative that any money brought in is used on strengthening Frank Lampard’s squad.

TalkSPORT reported that Everton want Conor Gallagher or Broja on loan as part of the deal. And Murphy feels that it is a no-brainer to prioritise a move for the striker.

“I think the obvious thing is getting some bodies in the building before you let him go. Because otherwise you leave yourself wide open. Broja would be part of the deal for me, I would insist on that. I think he’s a terrific talent,” he told talkSPORT.

“But the striking position with Calvert-Lewin being injured and Richarlison leaving, goals, goals, goals. So Broja would be a real asset to them.

“I thought he was really good at Southampton, in a struggling side. He’s physical, he’s energetic, he’s high intensity which the fans would love. And he can score a goal.”

Everton look to be in big trouble if they let the window shut without signing another striker. Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s injury issues, unfortunately, are nothing new.

And they do not have enough cover for the England international.

Broja still has a lot to prove in the Premier League. He really went off the boil towards the end of his loan spell with Southampton.

But he has real potential. So a loan deal surely makes a lot of sense for all parties if it becomes apparent that Gordon is heading for Stamford Bridge.
