Danny Murphy makes claim about Harry Kane’s Tottenham future

Danny Murphy has told the Daily Mail that he believes that Harry Kane would rather leave Tottenham Hotspur on a high than move on while they are struggling.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino goes into the international break with plenty to ponder. His side have lost their last two games and conceded 10 goals in the process.

They have given themselves plenty of work to do to qualify out of their Champions League group and finish in the top four in the Premier League. And that has led to plenty of outsiders to ask questions about the futures of a number of Tottenham’s key men.

Rio Ferdinand told BT Sport this week that Harry Kane needs to consider leaving if he wants to win trophies. But Murphy suggested that he is not expecting the striker to push to quit Tottenham.

“Rio Ferdinand has said Harry Kane could leave to win trophies,” he told the Daily Mail. “I personally think Harry is the type of lad who would prefer to go out on a high rather than jump ship when things are tough, as they are now.

“Harry will want to repay the club’s faith and turns things around.”

While Pochettino is yet to win a trophy during his time with Spurs, there are only a handful of clubs who go into each season looking, on paper, to stand a better chance of winning something.

It has been a disappointing start to the campaign. But Tottenham have made significant progress in recent years, and they now have the platform that will allow them to bounce back whenever they go through a disappointing period.

With that in mind, Kane could be taking a big gamble if he had any serious thoughts about leaving. Of course, any contender is going to be much stronger for having Kane leading the line.

But Tottenham have come agonisingly close to glory in recent years. And Kane would be forgiven for putting faith in the idea that they will get back to that level again – and get across the line when the chance presents itself.
