Danny Murphy has told Match of the Day 2 that Said Benrahma got better and better as West Ham beat Newcastle on Sunday, before making a big prediction about the season the Algerian could enjoy.

Benrahma was one of the players David Moyes would have been looking to to step up this term.

The 26-year-old showed glimpses of his quality last season. However, with West Ham enjoying a quiet window so far, it seems imperative that the attacking midfielder offers a lot more during this campaign.

Thankfully, Benrahma is off to an amazing start. He scored and provided an assist in the 4-2 victory over the Magpies.

And following the game, Murphy insisted that he has the ability to enjoy an outstanding season.

“From minute one, he had intent about him. He had good feet, he got in great positions,” he told Match of the Day 2. “You can tell he’s a goalscorer. I know he only got one last year, but he scored a loads of goals at Brentford and there’s no doubt in my mind, he’s got the ability to get double figures if he plays regularly in this West Ham side.

“As the game wore on, he got better and better and kept finding himself in goalscoring positions.”

Early goal against Newcastle could act as springboard for Benrahma in second season with West Ham

As Murphy notes, Benrahma has already matched his tally for goals from last season.

Getting off the mark already should do wonders for his confidence.

Moyes’s men now have a very decent run of games ahead. They face Leicester, Crystal Palace and Southampton in their next three.

Those could provide good opportunities for Benrahma to add to his tally and perhaps get off to the kind of start Jesse Lingard enjoyed following his switch to the London Stadium in January.
