Danny Murphy has raved about the performance of Arsenal star Gabriel Martinelli on BBC’s Match of the Day 2.

The Brazilian was handed another start by boss Mikel Arteta as the Gunners played out a 1-1 draw with Fulham.

Eddie Nketiah’s late leveller earned Arsenal a share of the spoils and pushed Fulham closer to a return to the Championship.

It was Martinelli who drew the most praise from the BBC pundit, however, with the £90,000-a-week Brazilian turning in another eye-catching performance.

The Gunners starlet scored 10 goals last season but has struggled with injuries during the 2020/21 campaign.

Now, he looks to be edging back to his best, however, and Murphy lauded the talented performer.

He told Match of the Day 2: “I’ve been a big fan of his since I first saw him, he’s a young man who wants to score goals and he works so hard off the ball to get himself into positions to do that.

“He hasn’t played as much as he would have liked this season because of injury. He’s got 11 goals in 22 games as a young player that’s good going.

“He gets in behind and he should have scored earlier in the game. In the second half when the chips were down and a few players went missing, he didn’t. He kept producing things, he kept trying to make things happen.

“Martinelli kept going right until the end and his performance and hunger to score goals was a real positive.”

Many fans believe that Arteta has been somewhat stubborn in his decision not to play the youngster more often and they could have a point.

Martinelli has shown recently what he is all about and the talented youngster now deserves a long run in the team.

Over to you, Arteta…
