Danny Murphy expects someone to snap up Leeds midfielder Phillips

Danny Murphy has predicted that Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips could be on the move this summer.

The 23-year-old has been a key player for the Whites in the centre of the park and made 46 appearances across all competitions for the season.

He was unfortunately unable to get his team over the line in the play-off semi-finals, but has been a real success story under manager Marcelo Bielsa.

The deep-lying playmaker has established himself as a real star in the Championship and is a product of the academy at Elland Road.

BBC pundit Murphy has been impressed by Phillips over the last year and expects serious interest in him.

According to the Daily Mail, recently promoted Norwich City want to sign Phillips and may offer around £12million.

“I like the lad, Phillips. Good player, he is. I was really, really impressed with him in the games I saw. Calm, good passer, two-footed. I’d be amazed if somebody didn’t snap him up,” Murphy told talkSPORT.

“They’ve (Leeds) nurtured him, coached him and got him [to this level]. But, for me, he’s the one that I thought, he’s going to go.”

TBR’s View:

Phillips has been one of the most consistent performers under Bielsa and taken huge steps forwards over the last year.

He usually dictates play from the base of midfield with his passing and tackling, while he can slot into centre-back when needed too.

Leeds can expect interest after an eye-catching campaign in the Championship, but need to try keep their core group together if they are to launch another promotion bid next season.

Phillips is certainly one the key individuals that needs to be tied down and they should ignore £12million interest from Norwich.
