Liverpool supporting pundit Danny Murphy has backed Everton to secure Champions League qualification with a top-four finish this season.
Carlo Ancelotti’s men are currently fifth in the Premier League but are on a decent run of form.
They defeated West Brom 1-0 last night to sit just a point behind Chelsea who currently hold the last Champions League spot.
The Toffees have ambitions of qualifying for Europe under the Italian boss but Murphy believes they could clinch a place inside the top-four.
He told TalkSPORT: “I think Everton might sneak in and it really does pain me to say it.
“They look really strong defensively at the moment. The likes of Godfrey, he’s been terrific, Holgate, Keane, they look really difficult to beat.
“Sometimes at this stage of the season it’s not how good you like on the eye, it’s how good you are at getting over the line and they look really difficult to play against.”
Everton raced out of the blocks this season but a mid-season slump seemed to halt them for a little while.
Ancelotti hasn’t let his standards slip though and his team have roared back into some form of late.
Everton have a decent squad these days and they have to be considered as part of the debate when it comes to qualifying for the Champions League.
TBR View: Everton could kick on even further with a top-four finish
Under Ancelotti’s management, the potential for what Everton can achieve is massive.
European football would be a great start but if they could sneak into the Champions League it could open the door for some quality players to arrive.
The world-class manager has an extensive list of contacts and in landing James Rodriguez last summer he completed a real coup.
That could be just the start and if a top-four finish is claimed, Everton fans should prepare for more stellar recruits checking in at Goodison Park.
