Match of the Day pundit Danny Murphy has called Arsenal fans ‘desperate’ to see matters improve, as shown by their enthusiasm over their club’s transfer business.
Speaking to TalkSport, Murphy was keen to hang fire on the likes of David Luiz and Nicolas Pepe, as Unai Emery’s struggles continue despite a summer which captured the imagination of the fans.
He said: “It’s desperate isn’t it. It’s when fans desperately want things to change and want to see better. We can’t generalise all Arsenal supporters, there are some very intelligent Arsenal supporters, but they are desperately trying to find things to cling onto. After the summer, some Arsenal fans were saying they had an amazing window. Really?
“You signed David Luiz! You spent a fortune on a winger [Nicolas Pepe] who is unproven in the Premier League; he might be alright, we’ll have to wait and see, but did you need one? They could have built their team around Aubameyang and Lacazette, two of the and used that money to get some defenders in.”

TBR’s View – Arsenal now have a talented squad underperforming under probably the wrong manager
Towards the end of Arsene Wenger’s reign and the start of Unai Emery’s, Arsenal didn’t have the personnel due to years of underinvestment in the transfer market.
Now they do – they signed some decent players in the summer – but Unai Emery is still no closer to imparting his blueprint on the side.
