Danny Murphy comments are what every Everton fan fears with £17m fan favourite
Danny Murphy has been discussing who Manchester United should target to help revitalize the club in the summer. The former Liverpool hero was discussing the midfield area in particular and believes a current Everton star could be part of the solution.
He told the Daily Mail that Portuguese international Andre Gomes could be a good signing for United in the summer.
“Verratti would be a good buy for United. So would Andre Gomes, who has looked extremely accomplished on loan at Everton from Barcelona.
I’ve seen Arsenal linked with Gomes but United’s need is as great. Fred was meant to be the answer but we haven’t seen it.”
Keep it quiet Danny!
From an Everton perspective, the biggest fear involving Gomes is that teams of Manchester United’s ilk realise just what a special talent the handsome devil really is.
Barcelona, clearly, are not one of them. As reported by Mundo Deportivo, Everton have first refusal on Gomes in the summer with a fee of £17 million reportedly in the pipeline.
Surely, that is an option they would exercise once the transfer window opens.
Gomes has been brilliant at times for Everton this season and has already built up a cult rapport with the fanbase at Goodison Park.
It has not been consistently excellent from the player who, at times, suffered during Everton’s lethargic spells.
However, he came into the season unfit and is still only on loan. With a full pre-season under his belt and his future settled Gomes could be a force to be reckoned with in 2019-20.
Everton fans will hope it is with them, so fewer tips from Liverpool folk would be much-appreciated across Stanley Park.
