Danny Murphy claims Harry Kane would get in Liverpool team over Roberto Firmino

Danny Murphy has caused a bit of a stir by suggesting Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane would get into the Liverpool starting XI over Roberto Firmino.

The former midfielder was speaking on talkSPORT about where the England captain would go if he ever left the north Londoners.

Murphy, who played for both clubs in his career, reckons the 26-year-old’s goalscoring prowess would see him theoretically displace Brazilian superstar Firmino in the Reds’ starting XI.

He said: “I think Harry Kane would get in Liverpool’s team ahead of Firmino because I think he’d score more goals. I love Firmino but he’s not Harry Kane.”

Kane is most definitely a prolific goalscorer, having notched 201 in his professional club career so far and a further 28 for England.

By contrast Firmino has scored 126 and 13 for Brazil.

As most will know though, Firmino is very much an untypical number nine at Liverpool in that he selflessly drops deep to allow the likes of Sadio Mane and Mo Salah to get in behind.

And of course, Firmino used to be an attacking midfielder and has effectively learned a new role later on in his career.

Liverpool fans react

Many Liverpool fans weren’t having Murphy’s suggestion that Kane would get into the Liverpool team.

While he is undoubtedly a world-class striker, Reds supporters adore Firmino and firmly believe his all-round game simply cannot be replicated:
