Liverpool went back to the top of the Premier League yesterday, with a comfortable 3-0 win at Anfield against Bournemouth.

Goals from Sadio Mane, Gini Wijnaldum and Mohamed Salah proved enough for the win. But it was the performance of Liverpool’s defensive midfielder that caught the eye of one former Liverpool playmaker.

Danny Murphy was left very impressed with the performance of Brazilian star Fabinho.

Speaking on Match of the Day, the former Red stated:

“It was a superb performance from him. He was tenacious, he was calm. At Anfield, when it is a bit edgy, you need someone who is brave enough to play forward passes, to not worry about losing the ball. He did that really, really well…

“He’s settled into this role really nicely. He’s starting to show the confidence that Liverpool paid the money for.”

Fabinho was a big signing from Liverpool in the summer. Jurgen Klopp approved the arrival from Monaco, in a deal reported by The Telegraph to be worth up to £43.7 million.

He did not initially find it easy to make the breakthrough at Anfield. He had to bide his time for regular football at the club, with his first Premier League performance not coming until October.

But he has since proven himself to be a shrewd addition to Klopp’s side. He even filled in at centre-back when Liverpool found themselves short.

If Liverpool are to win the title this season this summer recruit will surely play a major role.
