Danny Mills expects Leeds United’s Kalvin Phillips to become a regular for England, following his first ever call-up to Gareth Southgate’s squad for the current international break.
The 24-year-old has been drafted into the senior Three Lions squad for England’s upcoming fixtures and it’s off the back of helping his club side earn promotion from the Championship last season as title-winners.
He’s a central midfielder that has never played in the top-flight, but that has been overlooked by Southgate and he’s included in a squad stacked with experience.
Mills has raved about the ability of Phillips and claims he’s got what it takes to be a nailed-on starter for England in a defensive midfield role.
“He’s got all the attributes to be that holding player [for England]. His range of passing, his delivery is exceptional, he likes a tackle and he’s quite happy to play that holding role,” Mills told talkSPORT.

TBR’s View:
Despite the fact Phillips is yet to show his qualities on an elite stage, he’s taken colossal strides forward under manager Marcelo Bielsa in the past couple of years and is such a key figure on the pitch behind the success at Elland Road.
He’s an all-action central midfielder that has been moulded into a position just in front of the back four, where he can dictate play with his composure on the ball and also break up opposition’s possession too with his reading of the game and tough tackling.
It’s now up to Phillips to try cope with what is a massive step up in both pressure and ability, but he is taking everything in his stride at the moment and should be confident.
