Danny Mills has told Sky Sports News (Friday, 10.55am) that he reckons Leeds United’s deal to sign Helder Costa from Wolverhampton Wanderers is the Championship signing of the summer.
Leeds signed 25-year-old attacker Costa on an initial one-year loan deal from Wolves, in a move that will see the Portugal international sign an obligatory £15million move to Elland Road next summer – and sign a three-year deal.
So Costa will be a Leeds player for the next four years, unless a new side come in for the ex-Monaco star. He made a substitute appearances for the Whites during their 3-1 win over Bristol City last Sunday.
Former Leeds defender Mills was asked who he believes is the signing of the summer in England’s second tier, and he picked Costa with the belief that the former Benfica attacker can be the difference in Leeds’ pursuit of promotion.

“I think Helder Costa will be very good,” Mills said. “They had to replace Kemar Roofe. Leeds are still a little bit light on numbers. He’s [Costa] a quality player that’s been there done it in the Championship. He’s got Premier League experience as well. He might just be the difference for promotion for Leeds United.”
TBR’s view – When will Costa get a chance to start for Leeds?
Costa’s versatility, as well as his quality, made him a top target for Marcelo Bielsa. The Argentine manager agreed to remain at Leeds if the club could re-sign Jack Harrison and Jack Clarke, as well as signing Costa and Ryan Kent.
A move for Kent failed to get over the line, but the Whites did bring in Clarke, Harrison and Costa. But when will Costa get a chance? Against Bristol City, Leeds started Pablo Hernandez and Harrison out wide.
Harrison scored, while Hernandez won the man-of-the-match award with a goal and an assist. He may have to watch from the sidelines, again, when Leeds play Nottingham Forest on Saturday at Elland Road.
