Danny Cowley reacts to Leeds performance against Huddersfield

Danny Cowley has insisted that it is a case of when, not if Leeds United are promoted to the Premier League, and claimed that Marcelo Bielsa’s side are the best team in the Championship, in comments reported by Examiner Live.

Leeds took another step towards promotion with a 2-0 win over Huddersfield Town on Saturday. With Fulham drawing earlier in the day, the Whites have moved seven points clear of third.

And with West Bromwich Albion drawing, Leeds have now gone top of the Championship. It was arguably a performance befitting of a win that has sent Bielsa’s side to the league’s summit.

And Cowley admitted that he could only hold his hands up and accept that the better team won on the day.

“In my years as a football manager I’ve had the pleasure of managing against Arsenal, Everton, Burnley and that was right up there in terms of performance. It’s hard because they’re our rivals but sometimes you have to give credit to the opposition when they play well,” he said, as reported by Examiner Live.

“I’m going to be really interested to see when they go up how they do in the Premier League,” he went on to add.

“It’s when, not if. They’re the best team in the division by miles.”

TBR View – Leeds have work to do, but have found themselves in fantastic position

It is a classy statement from Cowley. But Leeds are playing like the best team in the league right now. They have won their last five games, and conceded no goals in that run.

It looked like the Whites may even struggle to hold onto a top six spot after their defeat to Nottingham Forest last month.

But they have responded incredibly well. There is plenty of work still for Leeds to do before they get across the line.

But they have put themselves in a fantastic position.
