Daniel Levy is desperate to keep Antonio Conte at Tottenham and is readying a new deal for the Italian.
The Athletic journalist Jack Pitt-Brooke told the View from the Lane podcast what he has heard about the Spurs’ boss situation.
He said that Conte may leave the situation dangling to ensure Spurs are matching his ambition but there is optimism he will sign a new contract.

Conte set to be offered new Tottenham deal
He said: “Conte has a contract which he signed last season, that expires at the end of this season. There is an option to extend, what I think is likelier is the offer of a new contract.
“There was a report in the Telegraph last week saying that the club intend to start contract negotiations with Conte during the World Cup.
“I believe that to be broadly true. I know that in Italy yesterday, some reports emerged suggesting it may be a three- year deal, with a pay increase, that I believe is also the case. That tallies with what I’ve heard.
“I know there is some concerns about the way Tottenham are playing, but there is no doubt in my mind that Daniel Levy wants to keep Conte at the club with a new deal.
“Conte will probably be doing at the end of last season, dangling the possibility he might not want to stay, and he wants to know that Tottenham have the same ambition that he does.
“I think I’m broadly optimistic about a new contract being agreed, I don’t know about a timescale, but my sense is fairly optimistic.”
Conte’s drive and ambition has reinvigorated Tottenham and they are on the same number of Premier League points as reigning champions Manchester City.
Wednesday night’s defeat to Manchester United – and the nature of the performance – has raised some question marks over Conte’s approach, but he won’t change.
Spurs do have an elite manager who wants to get success as soon as possible, so it makes sense that Levy is so keen to keep him.
