Football journalist Paul Brown has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy could lodge a late bid for Anthony Gordon – just to annoy Chelsea.

The Everton youngster is a wanted man. Nobody really expected him to be on the move this summer, but Chelsea seem desperate to sign him before the window shuts next week.

Tottenham’s Daniel Levy could lodge late bid for Anthony Gordon just to annoy Chelsea

Chelsea seem the favourites to sign Gordon from Everton this summer.

Sky Sports reveal that the Blues are so keen to sign the 21-year-old that they are willing to splash a fee as high as £60 million to get him.

Chelsea, however, aren’t the only ones interested in Gordon.

Reports have revealed that Spurs like the Toffees winger as well, and Brown has now claimed that the North Londoners could well table a late bid to sign him – and annoy the Blues in the process.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “Don’t rule out a late bid from Spurs, especially as they know it would really annoy Chelsea, which is something I’m sure the Spurs chairman (Daniel Levy) would love to do.”

TBR View:

We’re sure Levy and Tottenham would love to get one over Chelsea, but it’s difficult to imagine Spurs matching what the Blues are reportedly willing to pay.

Conte’s side have spent a lot of money themselves in this transfer window. They’ve brought in seven new players, and even though two of them came on a free transfer, the expenses have been huge.

Tottenham will likely try to bring in at least one new player before the window shuts next week, but we’d be really surprised if they table a bid in the region of £60 million to sign Gordon this summer.

It will be interesting to see how this pans out, but if Levy goes and signs Gordon, we’re sure Chelsea will be really, really annoyed.
