Daniel Levy changing tact most important aspect of £25m Tottenham transfer report

Reports overnight are suggesting that Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on the signature of Ryan Sessegnon from Fulham. As reported by the Daily Mail, Spurs are getting close to concluding a £25 million deal for the teenager who they first targeted last summer.

Fulham wanted £40 million for the player but their relegation has handed Tottenham the upper hand and the deal looks like finally being close.

However, the most exciting aspect of this report is an apparent change of tact from Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy. The report suggests he is acting fast in the transfer market to convince his manager Mauricio Pochettino that he is serious about backing him for next season.

In the recent past, Levy and Tottenham’s policy has been to wait until the last minute for the best deals in the transfer market. Last summer, it cost them a chance at bringing in Jack Grealish on the cheap after Aston Villa’s ownership changed hands.

This time around, it appears that Levy has decided to act fast. Sessegnon does not appear to be alone, with reports (The Telegraph) also suggesting Tottenham have already made a move to bring in Andre Gomes from Barcelona.

Hopefully, this is a sign of things to come in the transfer market this summer. If Tottenham can get their business done by the end of July this summer it will have fans enjoying a welcome change in policy from the often criticised chairman.

Sessegnon will hopefully be the start of that change.
