Daniel Levy admits Tottenham didn’t sell as many players as they wanted to last summer

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has admitted struggling to offload some players in the playing squad, as per a meeting with Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust board at Lilywhite House.

The transcript of the meeting outlines the issues Spurs have had in getting rid of players they don’t want but Levy also insisted that the refresh of the squad had begun.

It read: “DL (Levy) said it’s not always possible to sell players. In 90% of instances either a buyer could not be found for a player or the player did not wish to join the club that had expressed an interest in buying them so THFC was not able to make as many changes as desired this summer.

“DL reiterated just how difficult it is to get a transfer over the line, with so many moving parts. DL felt the next step in the project was already underway with the signings this summer and the sale of some fringe players. The much talked about refresh had already begun.”

TBR’s View – Finding buyers can be an issue but is Levy pricing players out of moves?

Levy is renowned for driving the hardest possible bargain for Tottenham and it is possible that the fees he is demanding for his squad players is too high.

Obviously, he wants to generate some cash with which to replace the departed players. But it might be a case of biting the bullet and offloading unsettled or substandard players to help Mauricio Pochettino evolve his squad.
