Daniel Levy has told Sky Sports that he is still unsure how much Tottenham Hotspur’s brand new stadium is going to cost the club, due to a series of repayments from “supportive banks”.
Tottenham finally make their debut in the new ground on Wednesday night, under the lights. They play host to Roy Hodgson’s Crystal Palace, but the pressure is on Mauricio Pochettino’s side from the off.
That is because the north Londoners have failed to win a league match in their last five attempts. The club have suffered defeats to Burnley, Chelsea, Southampton and Liverpool – drawing only with Arsenal.
Chairman Levy was asked about the overall cost of the stadium, with some reports suggesting the figure is around £850million. But Levy responded saying it is impossible to know yet, given that improvements are ongoing.

“The true cost of the stadium, we don’t really know at this moment in time because we’re still making various improvements but it is of that order,” Levy said.
“It was all financed by the club, a combination of club revenues and supportive banks. In terms of the pay back, it’s over the long term. This stadium is going to be here way past the lives of any of us.”
TBR’s view
It is great to finally see Tottenham – who have been burdened with playing their home games at Wembley for almost two seasons – back in their original habitat.
If the move from Wembley does not get optimism pumping and develop momentum, then little else will. Three points are sure to follow, though Palace are excellent on the counter attack.
To not know the cost of the stadium is slightly worrying. But Tottenham fans will know that Levy is certainly tight and controlled with his spending as the club’s chairman, and any expense will have been thought through.
