Daniel James showing against Leeds United suggests Victor Orta can forget about another January transfer attempt

Leeds United were on the end of a thrashing against their fierce rivals Manchester United last night and a former, and apparently current, transfer target played a key role in that defeat.

Leeds lost 6-2 against the Red Devils in a game in which former Leeds United target Daniel James was on fire.

The Welshman once saw a January transfer window move to Leeds collapse in the final hour, leaving Leeds director of football in tears. This performance likely had the same impact on Leeds’ affable Spaniard.

After the game, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was full of praise for the Welsh wing wizard.

“The goal will give Dan James a lot of confidence too,” Solskjaer told the BBC. “He’s been biding his time, been patient, been working hard and he’s still as fit as a fiddle and I was very, very pleased for him.”

This could also mean more bad news for Leeds.

It was reported by The Telegraph earlier this week that Leeds are again interested in a potential move for James this January to add some pace to their wide positions.

But judging by his involvement against Leeds and the praise lavished on him by Solskjaer post-match, it seems James still has a part to play in United’s season.

He always offers something different and that electric pace is a weapon any side in the top-flight will be reluctant to let go.

Judging by Solskjaer’s post-game comments, Leeds might not want to risk another January disappointment and look elsewhere for improvements on the flank.
