What seemed a harmless ‘like’ on Instagram recently soon snowballed into a suggestion about Daniel Candeias’ long-term future at Rangers. The Portuguese winger liked several comments suggesting he should return to former club Alanyaspor.

However, judging by his comments this week, the plan is to remain at Ibrox.

Speaking to Remate Digital he made it clear that he wants to help Rangers win titles and how despite loving life in Turkey, playing in Scotland at Ibrox is still his where he feels happiest.

“I always have to do better than the previous season, prepare well for it to be another good season and be the most successful time at the collective level.

“That’s about winning titles because a club like Rangers lives with it and those fans deserve it with the support they always give. This is my main goal, to help the team…

“Playing in Spain was fantastic but Turkey and Scotland was where I felt happiest and now playing in the Rangers with those fans is a fantastic thing.”

It will be welcome news for Rangers fans from a player not many expected to succeed under Steven Gerrard.

Signed by Pedro Caixinha he was one of the few success stories from the Portuguese manager’s poor spell in charge in Glasgow.

Many felt that with Gerrard ready to ring the changes and employ his own style and players, Candeias might fall to the wayside.

However, the 31-year-old played 52 times for Rangers last season in all competitions and is likely to remain a key figure for Gerrard going into 2019-20. Hopefully, he continues to love life at Rangers.
