Tottenham youngster Dane Scarlett has posted on Instagram a thank you message to Jose Mourinho, who was dismissed as the Spurs manager on Monday.
The north London club confirmed on Monday morning that Mourinho, along with his coaching staff, has been relieved of their duties.
Scarlett, 17, is a talented centre-forward from the Spurs academy, and he made his first-team debut under Mourinho earlier this season.
The London-born prospect has made three senior appearances across all competitions this campaign, but he’ll now be tasked with trying to impress whoever the club appoint as their next manager.
He uploaded a post on social media to directly to Mourinho:
“I will forever be grateful that you brought me into the first team and believed in me enough to give me my Tottenham debut. Thank you for everything and good luck for the future,” Scarlett wrote on his personal Instagram account.
The European Super League proposal has rightfully grabbed all the eyes of the footballing world.
Spurs are at the heart of the widespread discussions as one of the 12 clubs, six of who are English, to have signed up to the proposed competition. However, Mourinho’s sacking is still a massive piece of news at the club.
The timing of the decision seems bizarre on the dawn of the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City, and how the players respond to it is going to be intriguing.
They have a Premier League match against Southampton in midweek ahead of the cup final, which surely can’t be an ideal build-up for the players to the biggest game of their season.
