Curtis Woodhouse thinks Leeds player is better than Liverpool mainstay

Patrick Bamford took his Premier League tally to nine goals in 13 games for Leeds United on Wednesday night as Marcelo Bielsa’s men dismantled Newcastle United to win 5-2 – and Curtis Woodhouse has made a big claim, comparing a Liverpool ace.

Following promotion to the Premier League, there were doubts over whether Bamford could hack it in the Premier League – having netted just 16 goals in the Championship when he should have probably netted double that amount.

However, he has proved doubters wrong and is likely to be turning the head of Gareth Southgate – with his ninth coming after Rodrigo’s header dropped in front of the ex-Chelsea man off the bar. His form has been consistent, too.

Yes, he has scored a hat-trick against Aston Villa but Bamford has also netted against Liverpool, Sheffield United, Fulham, Crystal Palace, Chelsea and now Newcastle. It is impressive form, and Woodhouse has made a big claim.

The former Premier League midfielder thinks Bamford is better than Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino – despite the Brazilian scoring a crucial header to beat Tottenham on Wednesday night. He Tweeted as much after the 5-2 win.

TBR’s view – Is Bamford really better than Firmino?

It is an outlandish claim and while Woodhouse states that they do the same job, only Bamford scores, the difference is that Firmino is closer to a 10 – and Bamford is more of a nine. Yes, they do similar, but Bamford is more of a striker.

Firmino’s goalscoring form has been woeful and it certainly needs to improve, and he only has two assists to add to his three goals in 20 games this season. But the £29m (Goal) striker offers so much in creating, rather than actually laying on assists.

It is impossible to compare the duo, though 27-year-old Bamford’s stats are far better. Right now, you would say that Bamford is in better form than Firmino, but they offer different qualities.
