Curtis Jones may not be a fully-fledged England international, but he’s played with some incredible players at international level.

The Liverpool star has represented England at numerous youth levels, and, in that time, he’s played with some world-class talents.

Jones has played with the likes of Jude Bellingham and Bukayo Saka at international youth level.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Jones has been discussing the best players he’s played with for England’s youth teams, and he’s reserved some special praise for Anthony Gordon.

Jones has previously named Gordon as his best friend in football, and he says that the Newcastle winger is a very underrated player.

Anthony Gordon is very underrated

Jones shared his verdict on Gordon as a player.

The midfielder stated that the winger is one of the best young players he’s ever played with alongside Saka and Bellingham.

“Who is the best England wonderkid Curtis has played with?” Jones was asked.

“I’ve played with Jude, but I don’t know if the fans would know I’ve played with Jude, but I would say Jude,” Jones said.

“Bukayo, the same as Jude, I don’t need to say my opinion on that, how well he has done every single week.

“Anthony Gordon, I would say he is underrated as well. I know he does an amazing job and stuff, but he’s so underrated.

“The things you see him do and how fast he is and how sharp he is. Attackers are always spoken about in terms of goals they score, and assists, and how much of a threat they are. But how hard he works when he presses and tracks back. He’s overall just an amazing lad and a player.”

Anthony Gordon almost joined Liverpool

It’s interesting to hear Jones speak about Gordon in this way, because these two were almost teammates at club level.

Indeed, Liverpool wanted to sign Gordon this summer, and the winger’s head was apparently turned by the idea of moving to Anfield.

Unfortunately for Liverpool, Newcastle blocked this deal, and now, the deal looks like it could be dead.

Gordon has just signed a new contract with Newcastle, and while Gordon was keen to join Liverpool in the summer, he’s now committed himself to a future on Tyneside.

Jones and Gordon were incredible together at England youth level, and who knows? Perhaps this partnership is something we will see in the senior England team as the Three Lions enter a new era under Thomas Tuchel.

Gordon and Jones didn’t get to join forces at Liverpool this summer, but they may well be future teammates for England.
